WCF Best Shod at Aintree
The Worshipful Company of Farriers Best Shod Award was awarded at this year’s Randox Health Grand National race meeting, in the three races that are run over the Grand National fences. It was judged by leading farrier Sarah Mary Brown FWCF, the first woman to judge the award.

Randox Health Foxhunters’ Chase (Thursday)
Latenightpass, was shod by Farrier Liam Whelan DipWCF, of Warwickshire. The horse is owned by Mrs P. A .Ellis and trained by T. Ellis. Ridden by Miss Gina Andrews, Latenightpass went on to win the race.

Randox Health Topham Chase (Friday)
Pink Eyed Pedro, was shod by Farrier, Matthew Rees DipWCF, of Bridgend.
Pink Eyed Pedro is owned and trained by Mr David Brace.
Randox Grand National Steeplechase (Saturday)
Fortescue, was shod by Farrier Liam Evans DipWCF, of Shropshire.
Fortescue is trained by Henry Daly and owned by T. F. F. Nixon, who received the Le Reve Trophy.
The Best Shod Award recognises farriers’ skills in shoeing and preparing horses’ feet, thereby contributing to the welfare of the horse, which is paramount to the racing industry. The Award is made by the WCF in conjunction with the Aintree Executive and The Jockey Club.
