Ever wondered what LANTRA does and how they can help farriers? Here, Industry Partnership Manager, Lisa Jarvis explains her role and how you can help...

"As the Industry Partnership Manager for Farriery I work to ensure that the industry receives what it wants when it wants, but I can only do that if there is involvement from you the Farrier – as you are the people who know what is needed from training and development. Please contact me at lisa.jarvis@lantra.co.uk to discuss how you can get involved and make your voice heard.

Professions Allied to Veterinary Science Industry Group
Lantra works with farriery through the Professions Allied to Veterinary Science (PAVS) Industry Group and Virtual Group.

This group also provides representation for Veterinary Nursing, Animal Technology and more recently Equine Dental Technicians and Barefoot Trimmers; all of whom like Farriery are involved with the health and welfare of animals under statutory requirements.

The PAVS Farriery representatives are drawn from various areas of the Farriery world and include the FTA, NAFBAE and the Worshipful Company of Farriers, training providers, both colleges and private providers and Farriers.

The Virtual Group receives information from the industry group and members become a part of our consultation contacts. For more information about the Industry Group and Virtual Group e-mail Alison Bailey at alison.bailey@lantra.co.uk.

Sector Skills Agreement
The Sector Skills Agreement (SSA) was written having analysed the strengths and weaknesses of the farriery industry, and our work is now guided by the issues identified on the action plan:

  • Apprentices moving to a new Approved Training Farrier (ATF) part way through training
  • Identify careers development and funding opportunities in farriery and related industries
  • Harmonise funding for the Farriery Advanced Apprenticeship
  • Not enough information is held to determine the current and future requirement for the numbers of Farriers in the UK.
  • Improve the quality and diversity of applicants for the Farriery Advanced Apprenticeship
  • Meet Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

The Farriery SSA and action plan is a living document and we would like your comments on the actions identified and how they relate to your work in the industry.

Over to You!
There is much being done to assist the Farriery industry but even more to do! Lantra can only do this with your help so please get in touch and have your say at www.lantra.co.uk."
