New Farriery Apprenticeship - update

The Working Group and the Farriery Apprenticeship Steering Group are pleased to announce that the new apprenticeship in Farriery has been approved and published by the Government.

You will all know that this has been a long road to move our training from the existing framework to this new apprenticeship, a huge amount of time and man hours has been spent on achieving this and I would like to thank all the members of both committees for their time and effort.

The working group were working to the answers we received from the questionnaire and working with guidance from Institute for Apprenticeships have produced two documents -

The Standard: lays out the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours that are expected of any potential apprentice

The End Point Assessment: lays out what the final assessment (DipWCF) will look like and what it will assessed by.

These two documents need to be read as a pair by any prospective ATF or apprentice as they are mapped to each other. Every skill, knowledge and behaviour is mapped to a grading descriptor, the documents can be found here; www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/farrier/

I will be doing a more in-depth look at the apprenticeship in the next Forge magazine.
