September is a busy month for me. I have started by attending the Mustad sponsored, Isle of Wight Championships. Although this is not a BFBA event, I have helped organiser Simon Legge from the first event by running the Apprentice competition from shoeing Van/Rigs. Usually a very pleasurable time but you are beholden to the weather as we found out this year when the heavens opened and some of us got very wet.

The following Friday was spent at the MNC open day hosted by Mac and Sam Head. Some great lectures from Sarah Mary Beane, Jonathan Nunn and Jay Tovey.

The Saturday and Sunday was spent at HQ getting it ready for the upcoming Focus weekend. Brushing and moving stuff, arranging and generally tidying the whole place up. Had some great help with Mark Watson, Jim Balfour, Russell Jones, Huw and Jackie Dyer, Alwyn Mckeown, Carl Wain, Gavin Golby and Jonathan Nunn. Heroes all.

The following weekend from that is the Royal County of Berkshire Show (Newbury) where the Reading Branch run a shoeing competition with six different classes. Helped by past president Cliff Barnes and member Ian Chambers we had the honour of hosting the American team who were competing within fifteen minutes of arriving. Newbury is always a bit of an International affair with competitors from Hong Kong and New Zealand.

I am now looking forward to being back at Stoneleigh for the International Team Horsehoeing Championships and The Farriers Focus weekend. This is looking to be the biggest and best so far.

I do get to shoe horses in between all these jaunts and will be going to my house in Spain for a long weekend at the end of the month for a well-earned rest. I might just spend my time sleeping.
