Horse Owners Section

Farriery is defined in the Farriers (Registration) Act 1975 as 'any work in connection with the preparation or treatment of the foot of a horse for the immediate reception of a shoe thereon, the fitting by nailing or otherwise of a shoe to the foot or the finishing off of such work to the foot’. Whilst both farriers and blacksmiths work involves the skilled manipulation of metal, a blacksmith is not not permitted to fit shoes to horses and therefore the two should not be confused.

This section is dedicated to providing the horse owner with an insight into the craft of farriery, the education and training farrier's undertake and what qualifications they may hold, in addition to providing informative articles relating to the health of horses. If there is a topic you feel that we have missed or if you would like to know more about a certain aspect of horse shoeing or foot related issues, please contact us and we will do our best to resolve your queries.
