The Hoof Boot market is here to stay and is growing – and  farriers can now make some profit from it.
Pricing of the  Cavallo hoof boots has been structured to allow farriers to make a respectable margin on their sale. With a recommended retail price of £99.95 (£85.06 plus VAT), these boots are available to farriers from Atlantic Equine or your local supplier for  around £62.50 plus VAT.
“Farriers are obviously the best people to recommend hoof boots,” said Tony Lindsell of Atlantic Equine. “They can advise whether their use is appropriate for any  given horse, can fit the boot to the correct size, and will, of course, trim the hoof in preparation for wearing the boot. In the context of all these added services, there is no reason why a farrier should not charge the full recommended retail price for the boots.”
The Cavallo hoof boots are now available in a number of versions, all including pastern wraps. The original ‘Simple’ all-purpose, all-terrain boot, with front loading and two velcro  closures,  has been hugely popular with riders over recent years and can now be bought in Brown (Sizes 3,4 and 5) and Pink (Sizes 0 – 3), as well as the original Black.
A new boot has been added to the Cavallo range, the Sport. This is a lighter boot with a less pronounced tread pattern, suitable for use on less challenging terrain. The Sport has a polyester and leather upper, and reflective piping around the boot. It retains the very effective and simple front-loading, but has a single velcro closure with security tab. The Sport is expected to be popular with those who want to see ‘fashion’ as well as function on their horse’s feet, and is currently available in Sizes 3, 4 and 5.
All versions of Cavallo hoof boots are the same price and attract the same farrier discount.

Desperation took over December 2008 when Muriel Colquhoun’s short coupled, over active horse with a big movement, pulled his front shoes off for the umpteenth time! Royal Kerckhaert Horseshoes recently announced the introduction of the Synergy XT race plate. Responding to the request of leading track farriers and trainers to develop a plate providing maximum safety, wear and performance on synthetic surfaces, Kerckhaert produced an innovative design featuring bevels all round to increase the natural slide of the horse, reducing the chance of upper limb soreness. The rounded profile of the plate combined with the XT toe insert allows any traction needed for propulsion out of the gate and while travelling at speed. Trainers and Farriers really appreciate the Kings Plate Extra Sound because comfort for the horse is an important part of their success. On the foot surface, the seating out is increased and extends forward towards the back of the clip to avoid pressre in the toe. The nail holes are positioned coarser than the standard Kings Plate to produce strong nailing and the toe is designed a little flatter, to keep the tow short when fitting.
The left ans right designed hind plate is based on principles understood by Royal Kerckhaert a long time ago and used in many of their hind shoes.
The Extra Sound hind plate is the world's first drop forged shoe in a left and right pattern. The outside branch is a little longer than the inside branch and is wider from the quarterback.
