News (received 7th Jan 2008)
EuroSkills is a new event for the promotion of the skilled workforce and vocational education by means of competitions, demonstrations and an extended communication programme. It covers some 40 professions from 9 trade sectors, and will take place in Rotterdam in Holland between 18 and 20 September 2008.

The UK has been invited to enter a two man team into the farriery competition, and Mr David Gulley FWCF has been appointed Team Manager. Competitors must be aged between 18 and 25, and may either be still under training or recently qualified. There is still some debate about whether farriers who have already been placed first, second or third in an international event will be allowed to compete. The Government funded UKSkills has agreed to pay travel and accommodation costs for competitors.

The two team members and a reserve will be selected at the Home International in March, and the final selection will be confirmed at the Royal Show in July. Team members and reserves will be expected to attend various training events, but as far as possible these will be combined with other competitions and events that they are already attending.

This is an excellent chance for the UK to show the rest of Europe what high standards of farriery there are in Britain. If you are under 25 and interested in competing in Euroskills make sure that you are entered for the Home International.
